Hello, World
I told you it wouldn't be long
I imagine you're here from my former Substack, welcome back.
There's a small rebrand on this side (which didn't occur to me before making the URL, oh well). It is inspired by a friend's description of my writing (hi, Maddy!) as having your hand held while I explain horrible things. I consider this high praise. I want folks to feel hopeful and supported when facing a hostile world.
While I was moving everything over from Substack, I skimmed my 40+ posts from over there which wound up being a useful exercise. While at the beginning, The Cacophony was a good name for something I didn't yet know the form of, as I went over all the writing I did, a few themes started to emerge. They circle one another, dancing together, sometimes getting a solo and often performing as a group. I write about my own life, my desperate clamor for meaning and love in a world weighed down with isolating, violent technology. I still don't want to say I write about a single thing, but it is clear I keep coming back to similar topics and themes. This won't mean stopping myself if something else occurs to me, but having something a little more concrete as what to write about should, I hope, help with consistency.
Thank you for being here. As the world gets harder, your presence means more by the day.
